Mount Morgan In an old gold mining town in central Queensland lies a hidden treasure, but it has nothing to do with gold. The Mount Morgan Fireclay Caverns are the only example in Australia of caves with dinosaur footprints embedded in the roof. Unfortunately, the paleontological wonder has been closed to the public for the past seven years after a series of rock falls made it too dangerous to enter. John Steinberger is a local resident who takes tour groups through the historic town and old gold mine site. He said the dinosaur caves were an icon in the region. Not only [are they] Early Jurassic — which is million years old — [but they’re] in the roof,” he said. John Steinberger used to take people form all over the world on tours of the caverns at Mt Morgan.

How might the Hastings area have looked million years ago? Introduction Hastings is a large town and borough on the coast of East Sussex in Southern England with a population of over 86, people. The first ancestors of fish may have kept the larval form into adulthood as some sea squirts do today , although this path cannot be proven. Vertebrates , among them the first fishes , originated about million years ago during the Cambrian explosion , which saw the rise in organism diversity. Pikaia had a primitive notochord , a structure that could have developed into a vertebral column later.
Unlike the other fauna that dominated the Cambrian, these groups had the basic vertebrate body plan: The first jawed vertebrates appeared in the late Ordovician and became common in the Devonian , often known as the “Age of Fishes”. The Devonian also saw the rise of the first labyrinthodonts , which was a transitional between fishes and amphibians.

Along with their collection of insects to look at under microscopes we had our own collection of small fossils to view. This was a whole-school day and the organizers estimated about pupils attended the event. With teaching staff, helpers and organizers the estimate was about people on site during the day. Also inside the house were Timetaxi. We thank the Geological Society of London for providing a grant to pay for a wide-format pop-up projection screen which was used throughout the week to project images from our high-definition microscope.
Sedimentary rock – Sandstones: Sandstones are siliciclastic sedimentary rocks that consist mainly of sand-size grains (clast diameters from 2 to millimetre) either bonded together by interstitial chemical cement or lithified into a cohesive rock by the compaction of the sand-size framework component together with any interstitial primary (detrital) and secondary (authigenic) finer-grained.
Yellabidde Cave, Northern Swan Coastal Plain, Southwestern Australia Aboriginal History of Australia Aboriginal people have lived in Australia for at least 60, years, arriving by boat from south Asia at about that time, or possibly earlier. By 35, BP to 25, BP ancestral Aboriginal People had occupied all major environmental zones of Sahul Greater Australia , from the large islands off the northeastern coast of Papua New Guinea in the equatorial region, to the southernmost part of Tasmania.
At the time of the arrival of Europeans in Australia it was declared an unoccupied land, as the Aboriginal People didn’t practice agriculture, so the colonists could take over without even consulting the locals. The Aboriginal People were believed by some of those Europeans to be at best, like children, who needed to be protected from themselves as well as everyone else. Others regarded them as sub-human, so there was no problem treating them as though they were animals, especially when colonisation got under way and colonists wanted to take over their hunting territory for raising cattle and sheep, or farming.
They were mostly tolerated as long as they didn’t try to stop pastoralists taking their land, when they got in the way, they were often treated like animals that ate the colonists’ crops or killed their cattle for food. It has since been realised that they did indeed farm the land, even the parts that were unusable by the colonists, and for a very long time.
It has been called fire-stick farming. During their long period of occupation they developed a system of burning off limited areas at certain times of the year, that encouraged the grass growth, that supported the animals they hunted. So while they lived by hunting, over large parts of the continent it was in effect managed hunting.

Karst areas consist of chemically soluble rock such as limestone and gypsum. It can be associated with diamonds or gold. The size of the fragments ranges from sand- to cobble-size. The rocks that form from molten lava are classified as extrusive.

“I have been to Holy Land and it was a dream come true for me. The pilgrimage left me with a wonderful memory. The experience of following the footsteps of our Lord Jesus Christ from before He was born in the Old Testament culminating in His birth to the time of His death and resurrection.
They guide researchers in their studies. They also guide practitioners in their intervention strategies. And they will provide you with a basic understanding of how to see the larger social picture in your own personal life. Theory is a set of interrelated concepts used to describe, explain, and predict how society and its parts are related to each other.
Goggles work because the best scientific components work together to magnify, enlarge, clarify, and expand to our view the thing we are studying. Theories are sets of inter-related concepts and ideas that have been scientifically tested and combined to magnify, enlarge, clarify, and expand our understanding of people, their behaviors, and their societies. Without theories, science would be a futile exercise in statistics.
In the diagram below you can see the process by which a theory leads sociologist to perform a certain type of study with certain types of questions that can test the assumptions of the theory. Once the study is administered the findings and generalizations can be considered to see if they support the theory. If they do, similar studies will be performed to repeat and fine-tune the process.
If the findings and generalizations do not support the theory, the sociologist rethinks and revisits the assumptions they made. They devised a theory on aging that had assumptions built into it. These were simply put, that all elderly people realize the inevitability of death and begin to systematically disengage from their previous youthful roles while at the same time society prepares to disengage from them see Maddox et al.

Insects The first invertebrates crawled onto land by at least million years ago, and took to the air a few millennia later. The oldest insect fossils date to million years: It is thought that detritus-eating invertebrates colonized land along with the first land plants, possibly the Cooksonia that is often found with the insect fossils; insects did not develop the mouth parts for eating plants until the Carboniferous 50 million years later.
This is a fantasy story that builds up to a good deal of sexy fun. It starts out in our world and ends somewhere else entirely. Given the name I’ve chosen for it I feel the need to tell you that it has a disappointing lack of dragons. However I’ve attempted to make up for that with an abundance of boobs and a strapping young male protagonist. I hope you like it. Gregory Hopkins had a missing dragon to deal with.
He’d taken a different approach to the problem than he normally did, cutting through the park on his way home from school. Still, there was no doubt about it. He knew the first time he saw those beautiful green lawns. All that empty space was missing something and that something was possibly an army of elves or, more likely, a dragon. Without weighing the risks of such an endeavour as finding a missing dragon upon a park lawn during the English summer; he sat down beneath a large oak tree, plucked his sketch pad out of his bag and got to work.
Drawing what was already there was easy enough.

Something of a parting gift, I suppose. The entertainment system has got a software glitch – the audio won’t operate at all unless I first plug my iPhone into the lead in the USB port, wait while the system recognises that, then unplug it, at which point the radio will spring into life. But you still can’t change stations or switch from DAB to FM; you can manually search for another station.
Also, it says it is constantly “indexing” the music on my phone when it’s plugged in, so won’t play any of my music either. I didn’t realise how much I hate silence in a car until this week. But, looking back over six months of ownership, there has been nothing else to complain about.
